Zayith Yoghurt Sweetened High Protein Yogurt

Zayith Yoghurt, a Nigerian Greek yoghurt brand, has been called out by some netizens over a false nutritional claim on its product.

The brand on its product “HIGH – PROTEIN GREEK YOGURT” boldly claimed it contains “30g protein per 100g of yogurt”.

A food influencer and nutritionist on X (formerly Twitter), Ngee the Nutritionist (@ngee_danielle), raised concern about Zayith’s claim, in a quoted post thus: “Let me just keep quiet..Zayith yogurt come to the front. Even mich and Kay is 13g of protein per 100g. So what did you do differently? (sic)”.

The result of a laboratory test sponsored by “a consumer” revealed the Zayith Yogurt did contain only about 22% of the 30 grams it claimed on its nutritional content label.

The test, which was conducted by Pearls Scientific Laboratory Services in Lagos, revealed the Zayith High-Protein Yogurt contains 6.55g per 100g of yogurt as against the 30g claimed on the label.

The fat content is also three (3) grams higher than the claim on the label. The brand on the product’s nutritional content label claims it contains 5g, while the test result showed it contains up to 8 grams.

Consumer Paddy has sent an email to Zayith Food Company requesting a response to the allegation.

Zayith was founded years ago and has grown since then with different products, which include sweetened, unsweetened, and high-protein yogurt in various flavours: strawberry, mango, mixed berries, and vanilla, among others.

It is a strong supporter of smallholder farmers in Nigeria. According to its site, Zayith sources its fruits from these farmers, who are mostly women.

In 2022, it announced a partnership with Triple I, a Netherlands-based investment firm. The founder and CEO, Uzoma Chidimma, was in 2025 recognized by the Fortify Forward Innovation Challenge (FFIC) for “Zayith’s innovative use of precision micro-dosing to create nutrient-fortified yogurts backed by essential consumer education”.

The company was featured in the 2026 Africa’s Business Heroes Top 100 companies in Africa.
